River Guide

Job Title: Class III/IV River Guide

Methow Rafting is looking for a river guide to work May to August on the Black Canyon of the Methow River. This is class III/IV and runs from 600 cfs to 10000 cfs, each level engaging in its own way. Highwater offers big hits, fast paced guiding, and 15 rapids in 10 miles. Low water offers technical channelized paddle guiding in smaller boats, swimming in warm water, snorkeling with salmon, cliff jumping, and lunches on sandy beaches.

This job is a good fit for someone who wants to travel somewhere new and live in the eastern foothills (the dry and sunny side) of the North Cascades in Washington State. Recreational activities include climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, morel hunting, and events in a vibrant community, one that convinces many to stick around for the winter. In the winter the Methow Valley is a backcountry skiing and cross country skiing paradise.

Methow Rafting is usually the only outfitter on this section so there is little traffic to contend with. The trip size ranges from two to six boats. This is an opportunity to work with seasoned guides who have worked around the world. They return for good solid class III/IV whitewater but also because this is a small and growing, flexible and fun company. The crew often goes boating and out to music and events together. Last year the crew all ran the Lochsa, the Wenatchee, and rented the local movie theater to watch River Wild. The owners are young and energetic, are on the river guiding part time, in the shop or driving shuttles the rest of the time, and are in tune with the needs of river guides. The team of guides ranges from 7-9 depending on the time of year.
