Job Title: Reservation Specialist

Methow Rafting is the Methow Valley’s River Outfitter connecting people to the Methow River through fun and family-friendly river trips. Services and products include guided trips, tube rental and shuttle, river equipment rental, river education (i.e. river rescue), and merchandise. Guided trips include whitewater (class III/IV) and scenic (class I/II) in both rafts and inflatable kayaks. Trips begin in late March and end in September. The trips are offered in four distinct “seasons,” each unique and enjoyable in its own way. And beyond the business, Methow Rafting is a pillar of the community, growing local river recreation and making it accessible to people through locally focused and subsidized trips.

Methow Rafting is looking for a reservation specialist to work in the Methow Rafting Storefront at 309 Riverside Ave in Winthrop, WA. The Storefront is where guests walk in, inquire, and book trips; buy merchandise, and rent river gear. For guides, the Storefront is where Winthrop Scenic trips are based out of, and where equipment is maintained and repaired. It is also the management headquarters. Behind the building is a porch overlooking the confluence of the Methow River and Chewuch River, providing a tangible feeling to the trips offered, and a great place to cool off when it’s warm.

This is a customer service and operations support position. The bulk of the work will be customer communication although this workload varies with demand throughout the season. The additional, non-customer communication work includes trip support, marketing, improving systems and work instructions, equipment maintenance, and website development. The work is engaging, project-oriented, and variable in its nature.

Job Overview

  • Start: May 1, 2022 (or earlier)
  • End: September 15, 2022 (or later)
  • Five days a week
  • Two mid-week days off per week
  • Scheduling occurs a month out and confirms the week before
  • Location: Winthrop, WA
  • Reports to office manager

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Customer communication via face to face, phone, and email
  • Describing trip options
  • Vetting customers
  • Deciding if the trip is the right fit for the guest
  • Determining if the requested trip is available
  • Suggesting additional activities, restaurants, and experiences to complement their trip (or instead of a trip if it is not a good fit)
  • Occasional assistance with shuttles for the Winthrop Scenic trips
  • Equipment Rental
  • Equipment maintenance and repair
  • Systems development (work instructions and SOPs) for other reservation specialists

  • Point of Sale experience (ideally Square)
  • Training provided if not
  • Online reservation system experience (ideally Xola)
  • Training provided if not
  • Experience and enthusiasm for outdoor adventures (professionally or recreationally)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Customer service experience - must be friendly and kind toward guests
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a positive attitude for potentially large periods of the day
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team
  • Two professional references
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Knowledge of the Methow River and its various sections and levels is a big plus
  • Ride alongs are available and encouraged
  • Ability to work without oversight and independently
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and create efficient systems for better operations

  • 50% of further education if committed for the season
  • River rescue course (two will be hosted locally)
