The Gold Creek run takes it up a notch with some exciting class II and III rapids and lots of surfing waves. This all day trip begins near Carlton, Washington, 20 miles South of Winthrop and includes a riverside lunch. This trip is perfect for those with some solid paddling experience who are looking to take their skills to the next level. We have a very low guide to client ratio on this trip so you'll get lots of personalized instruction if that's what you're after.
Topics we'll cover include river safety, advanced paddling techniques and reading the river. You'll have lots of opportunities to surf waves, catch eddy's and practice your whitewater paddling skills. The Gold Creek trip is only offered for adventure seekers with previous paddling experience so expect a brief interview with a guide when booking your trip.
What To Expect
For the Gold Creek trip our staff will meet you at the take out spot [see map]. You'll leave your vehicle there and we'll shuttle you up to the boats at the put-in. Please be aware that there are minimal facilities for this trip so you may want to arrive in your swim-suit and make a bathroom stop in Methow or Carlton depending on which direction you'll be arriving from.
After checking in with our staff and signing waivers, we'll outfit you with a wetsuit and then we'll shuttle upriver to the put-in. When we arrive at the put-in our guides will help you prepare for the trip, taking time to help outfit you with all of the gear you’ll need. Included in the cost of all of our trips is a Personal Flotation Device (PFD), helmet, paddle, wetsuit, paddle jacket if needed, and booties for your feet- everything you’ll need!
As soon as everybody's geared up, your guides will give an orientation that covers paddling technique and river safety. Expect to spend about three hours paddling the river with a relaxing lunch stop at a beach along the way. We provide a big lunch with sandwiches from our local bakery to fuel your day.
This is a full day of whitewater with lots of exciting Class II/III rapids including DOT, Gold Creek Rapid and Taco Time! You'll have lots of opportunities along the way to hone your paddling skills and practice “surfing” your kayak in big waves! We'll end our day back at your vehicle so you'll want to leave your towel and dry clothes there.
What To Bring
If you would like to help us reduce plastic waste please bring a re-fillable water bottle and we'll stow it onboard the raft. Please bring any medications that may be necessary during the trip, ie. asthma inhalers or epi-pen for severe allergic reactions. Please notify your guide- we need to know if you have any medical conditions, AND we'll stow it in the dry bag on board the raft. Depending on the weather you may want to bring a warm layer, we recommend a fleece or technical wool mid-layer (no cotton please). If you must bring a camera we recommend only waterproof cameras. Please leave all other personal items in your vehicle or at home.
